Our ProTide Technology Platform has the potential to transform chemotherapy to targeted therapy. The technology applies a proprietary phosphoramidate strategy to certain commonly-used cancer drugs (nucleoside analogues). The ProTide Technology Platform has been designed to target specific patient populations for whom existing chemotherapy is not likely to be effective. By overcoming the key resistance pathways, ProTides aim to significantly improve the efficacy, broaden the clinical utility, and improve the safety profile of many established anticancer agents.
NuCana BioMed is applying the ProTide technology platform to specific pyrimidine and purine nucleoside analogues. These two distinct classes include all the nucleoside analogues currently approved for the treatment of cancer. Our two lead programmes focus on transforming gemcitabine (Gemzar™) and 5-flurouracil (Xeloda™) although we have several other exciting ProTide series in development.
The ProTide technology has been validated by a number of companies including GSK, BMS, Roche, Gilead, Pharmasset and Inhibitex in their enhancement of their proprietary anti-viral nucleoside analogues. Medicines derived from the ProTide technology are classed as New Chemical Entities.
